CALGARY – Alcohol is thought to be a factor in a multi-vehicle collision on Sunday that killed one man and injured several others.

The crash happened on Glenmore Trail S.W., just west of Crowchild Trail S.W., at about 4:30 p.m.

At least three vehicles were involved, all of which were found in the eastbound lanes of Glenmore Trail. However, investigators believe one of the vehicles may have been travelling westbound prior to the crash.

Paramedics treated a total of six patients at the scene; four were taken to hospital.

A man and woman, both in their 40s, were transported to Rockyview Hospital in stable, non-life-threatening condition. A man in his 20s and a woman in her 60s were taken to Foothills Hospital in serious condition.

“As well, paramedics identified there was one male who was deceased at the scene and not transported to hospital – a man believed to be in his 60s,” Stuart Brideaux with EMS said.

Police took the male driver of a pickup truck into custody.

The collision caused both eastbound and westbound lanes of Glenmore Trail to be shut down for several hours.

Police say charges are pending against the driver taken into custody.
